Hey, I just totalled my Jeep, pretty bad, it was fixable but I threw it away, someone got a steal of a deal. Now I am looking to buy a vehicle. To start I plan on buying a car. To drive it around as a means of cheap transportation. I will get snow/ice tires for the winter. And drastiacally change my driving style for RWD cars. When I save up enough money, I will buy a truck. I originally wanted a compacted late 80's to early 90's 4cyl or v6. But I am leaning towards a boat of a car rear wheel drive V8, because I want to rebuild that engine. I will probably go with a 350 V8. As for the truck that engine will go in I am not sure if I will buy a Ford, or go with Dodge. But either way I want a solid front axle truck, non of this IFS crap.
This will be an ambitious project for me. I am new at repairing/fabricating things. My options are for cars, Ford/Mercury Marquis, Ford Crown Victoria, Olds Cutlass, Chevroet Impala, Chevrolet Caprice. One ad I think it was the Ford Crown Victoria 1980 had the 351 Windsor Engine. I have no clue what transmission it has most likely an AOD. Is this an ok setup out of a car that can go into a Truck? What sort of parts will I have to swap over? Everything?
I got a few leads on Ford F150 1987 to 1991 body style. Perhaps it is best if I find a Ford F150 with a same engine in it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Oh last thing, how do I tell what engine is in the Ford F150 when I go look at it, can I tell by the VIN?
in 87-96 f-150's...the 300-6 is the only inline motor, the 5.0 will say 5.0 on it, same with 5.8
i think in 87 you could still get a carbed 351....so if you see a carbed motor in an 87, it slikely a 351...if its a 250 or 350, it could be a 460 as well
