I am considering purchasing a 2006 F-250 Super Duty PSD Lariat Crew Cab. One truck has the camper package and the other does not. Otherwise they are both loaded. I will never have a slide on camper nor will I ever probably pull a camper. I may tow a utility or horse trailer but most of the time I will just be using it for normal driving. I have a F-150 Crew Cab Lariat now and just like the diesel Super Duty. The truck with the color I like has the camper package and it is only $160 but are there any drawbacks to the camper package such as worse ride that might make me not get it or will I never be able to tell it is there? Thanks for your help. This is my first post.
Apparently no one's answered yet... looks like you did everything right to me.
The Camper Package gives you one-plus springs all the way around (the next size up from whatever the spring computer selects for the truck), overload springs in the rear, a rear stabilizer bar, and the camper certification.
The ride will be slightly stiffer than the truck without the Camper Package, but you'll hardly notice it. In fact, pulling your trailer, you'll see an improvement from both the springs and the rear stabilizer. Also, if you choose to add a grille guard/replacement front end, the heavier front springs will handle that additional weight far better.
Go ahead and get the camper package, you'll notice more benefits than drawbacks.
Second that! Get the camper package, just for the stabilizer and the overloads. I have it (had) on my 250 V10 and it rode just fine, after I changed the shocks.
I am so glad I got the camper package, no differnce in ride but the rear stablizer and the rear over load springs are the best. Hitched up my trailer and the back of the trucks lowers untill it hits the overload springs then it stops.
Depends - I noticed that some suspension packages are mutually exclusive - can't remember which ones, like the camper package and FX4, or whatever. Noticed this on the "Build YOur FORD" portion of Ford's website. Guess it depends on what you want overall ....
Mine had the camper package and the FX4. Don't waste your money on the FX4 package. The only thing worth wild on that is the skid plates and you can order those seperately. Save your money and get a set of Bilstein or Rancho RS9000X shocks.

BFR250SD, don't forget about the FX4 sticker... it's all about the sticker.
I totall agree with you though, skip the FX4 package and get the camper package. Then, order the skid plates from the parts department. Some dealerships will give you huge discounts on parts for your newly purchased truck. Look into it, they probably don't announce it, but will honor it.
Oh, I put on Rancho RS9000s all around. Got the incab controller for free from Rancho's site when they were having a deal goin on. Have been considering the Bilsteins lately, however.

Get the camper package! I had it on my '00 F250 and now on the '05 F250. I really like the rear stabilizers. I have both camper and FX4 package. I don't care about the FX4 package as I will never go off roading with mine. I removed the FX4 sitcker with a heat gun because I hate side panel stickers on trucks/cars.
Yeah, that's not bad. I think they're regularly around $90 each. You can sometimes get them in a deal, buy 3 get one free from different sites on the net. One I remember was summit racing. Might wanna check around for that.
I put the RS9000X's on and the ride was infinitely better than the junk that came on the FX4 package. If you look at the shocks, they are stamped "Motorcraft", uhhhhhhhh Ford. They are suppossedly made by Rancho, but to Ford specs. They aren't worth a crap.
The RS9000X's were worth every penny. I would have put them on with the lift, but they don't have them in the length I needed.
