Need some help with a problem I having getting the air pocket out of the upper rad. hose. I had to replace the rad. on my truck and that went fine till I went to fill the system and found I had little heat and I could shake the upper hose and hear water and air in it. I have tried all thetricks I know, Any help Please?
Start it up and keep squeezing the top hose until all the air comes out. Keep refilling. Then fill it up and check it every week until you're sure it's full.
Honestly, though, if all you are missing is a little bit of coolant, the heat will work just fine. Was this a sudden thing, just after the new radiator was installed? Did you do anything else, like replace the water pump or change the heater core?
Thank you for getting back to me. I didnt have alot of heat for a year or so but I only used it as my hauler. This past summer I have replaced the fan clutch . But the temp. gauge never got above the lower part of the normal line. I changed the rad. because of a leak(not related). I can fell HOT water on the lower side of the hose but the top never gets hot its always cold. I did try a new thermostat thinking it may be stuck but wasnt it. But now I hung a plow on the front for the winter and it is a bit chilly. Mark
When I flushed the cooling system in my truck all I did was keep adding water and watching the level drop and then add more. I stood there for however long it took for the level to stop dropping. The water pump pumped the air out. Then like andy said, I made sure the coolant level was correct over the next couple weeks.
There are vacuum lines that control door vents that direct heat into the cab. Check those for leaks.
If the upper hose is never getting hot, then you have a problem. The upper hose returns hot water from the engine. The lower hose pulls in cooled water from the radiator.
I'm pretty skeptical that the engine isn't getting hot enough. Even with NO thermostat, that hose should be too hot to touchonce the engine is up to temp.
