electrical gremlins

i have a 78 ford shortbox and i can't get the brake lights to light up when i press the brakes, and the brakelight in the cab is always on and i can't get the reverse lights to work. any help is appreciated. thanx

Check the brake light fuse.

The brake light that's on the cluster is the low brake/failure warning lamp.
The system needs to be overhauled.

The neutral start /BU light switch is mounted on the side of the auto trans.
This switch usually fails from being very dirty with road grime.
Remove it and clean it with lacquer thinner & then varsol,then electrical cleaner.

Have you looked to see if your brake light switch under the dash on the pedal is contacting when you depress the brake pedal.I would check the switch on the emergency brake pedal for the light being on.You can try www.autozone.com repair info for help.Hey mil1ion Do our trucks have a low brake warning light?I thought only newer trucks had that.

There ISN'T an emergency brake light.

That is the brake failure light

thanx guys i know for sure it's not the switch b/c i changed it and it's still like that but i'll try all your tips and get back to you if it don't work.

The switches fail you know.
Remove the connector to the switch and loop a wire to each connection to see of the lights come on
