302 to 5.4L swap in a 92?

Ok, my 302 is a bit worn out currently has 197xxx on the clock. All the drive train stuff is the same way nothing has been replaced / rebuilt except the little things, nothing big like the front or rear end tranny transfer case or motor. My question is has any one dropped a 97+ 5.4 into a pre 97 truck? along with the tranny and all the running gear. Any help would be great
-thanks
Matt

Dimensionally, it will fit just fine. It's almost the same size as a 460 which fits very nicely in the 87-96 body styles (and an option on the F250/F350).

I'd recommend swapping the engine, tranny, wiring, computer, accessories at the same time, making the swap easier. You'd have to make motor mounts, which is not really a big deal if you suspend the engine/tranny with a crane and mock it up while it "dangles" over the engine mounting ears on the frame.

If you want to mate a 5.4L to your tranny, that's much more work as the bell housing patterns aren't even close.

Bolt up to the driveshafts, or to the frame? The rear is a solid axle, that's easily adapted if necessary. The front, honestly, I've not looked close enough to be able to say yes or no.

When I saw your post, a friend was here with a 5.4L F250, so I roughly tape measured the engine then measured my older 93 F350 and saw that it should fit no problem. I glanced around the engine compartments and didn't see anything obvious that would prevent this swap.

I'd swap the new engine/tranny in, and leave the older suspension, driveshafts, and just worry about mating the two with u-joints... this way the shalfs are the right length and so forth. But that's just me, after a 10 minute tape measure session.
