Dumb Question-Greasing Front End

I'll apologize upfront as this is a dumb question but I'm not used to these newer vehicles. I went to grease the front-end on my 2004 4X4 Excursion and noticed these rubber boots around the grease fittings. I have rubber boots on my old Bronco fittings but they don't appear to have been very tight (I'm really not sure as I bought the Bronco when it was 8 years old). My question is, how do I determine how much grease to put into the fitting? I don't want to keep pressuring up the rubber boot until it blows out. For the time being, I hit each of them with two pumps. Thanks for your help.

usually till you see the boot bulge SLIGHTLY.. dont overdue it or you will have grease coming out from the boot.

I think they may make a little diaper for this problem! It "Depends" if you really need it.

I always grease until I see grease coming from the boot. This way I know I have fresh grease in there. Plus I take the grease that comes out and wipe it on all of the bolts so that they don't rust. This way when I need to work on the truck I can simple unbolt everything and not have to deal with rusted bolts. I also grease mine every oil change.

yes, grease every time you change the oil. and for the grease coming out of the boot, if this happens, you no longer have a good seal to keep the "elements" out of the joint. if the truck never sees heavy mud or deep water, then you could grease until you see a little come out of the boot and then wipe it off. and for wiping the grease onto the bolts????? if thats the case, you might as well dip the entire truck. what bolts? there are alot..

I'm known for appling grease to just about everything. But when I refer to the front end I try to focus on the bolts that see the most weather as I live where it snows so they salt the roads. By keeping grease on the bolts in makes it alot easier to take them apart and I just had to replace the ball joints and while I was at it I changed the front dif fluid and greased everything I could find.
