Question Turbo Spin Down

Another question:

After you guys turn off your truck, can you here the turbo spinning down? At first I think it was something else, but I left the hood open and found the sound was coming from the turbo.

Also, it sounds as if something internally is hitting in the housing, it that normal?

Thanks!

Yes, the turbo spins for several minutes after ward. It takes some time to slow down, its the inertia of a mass thats spinning. Depends on how hard you run it before you shut down. Best to let it idle a few minutes if you are towing or hauling or doing hills. As for the something hitting I don't think thats normal, you will want to get it checked out or figure out where its coming from.

I just picked up a BRAND NEW '06 F350 PSD last Tues. and I was wondering the SAME thing. It does the same thing.
Hear a slight "hitting" sound as its slowing.

I'll check my friends 06 F250. He bought his 2 months before me and we very close build dates.

Almost sounds normal.

you can also hear air rushing around inside from the front of the grille. that is the air being pumped through the intercooler, and eventually it will make its way back past the turbo and OUT through the air filter. ahh, the sounds i have come to love!

I thought this sound was the radiator about to boil over. Thank you for clarifying what the heck this noise is. Now I will not be so concerned.
