'77 F-100

looking into picking up a 77 F-100, straight 6, 3 spd.... any points in particular that I should pay attention to?

Rust is common in the cab corners, bed side wheel wells and floor pans. Replacement panels are available though. Check the radias arm bushings in the front end, these usually need replacing after this many years. Also check the parking light/brake light functions. Sometimes new sockets are needed.
Nothing really major to look for though. Maybe engine oil condition and watch for smoke from the engine.

sounds good. without any kinda of further info, I have not had the chance to look under it, would this be a c4 or c6 trans? I am not sure what bolt pattern the 4.9 has to match it up to anything as the only trannys that I have had are manuals. Is there really that much difference between them?
