Transfer case bearings
95 Explorer XL 4wd, 5 speed, 118,000 miles. Had to have trasfer case bearings all replaced the other day. The rear shaft coming out of case you could shake it up and down, a lot play and it was leaking some fluid out also. We have hardly ever used the 4wd. and kept the fluid changed regularly. My mechanic went thru the whole case and ended up costing $1000 and warranty for a year. Just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem.

Thanks for the reply, always good to look for the source of the problem not just the results.
We have 2 Explorers 92 (350K) and 97 (310K) used for Rescue Dive unit, we drive them hard, so we keep them in #1 shape, have been good vehicles.
