Voltage Regulator system

Hi all,

Wading into new waters with this one. My 72 F100 and I went on a trip last night. When I got ready to head home the batter was dead. I got it jumped and it ran, but the lights seemed unusually bright. This morning it seems that the wires that go to/from the voltage reg have been cooked.

This is a very well used pickup and I don't think this is the original volatage reg system. It looks like one from a newer model. Despite that, it looks like a matter or replacing the burned stuff with new and replacing the VR (which I assume is what caused the wires to get too hot.

Can anyone tell me if putting this back together is something I can handle or should I send it out?

Thanks!!

Tony in New Mexico

You can probably take care of it yourself. If you need the wiring diagram, PM me with your email and I'll send it to you. It's probably just a matter of replacing the burnt wiring and the voltage regulator and making certain you don't have any bare spots.

When replacing wires, make sure you verify which wires are fusable links and which wires are normal wires. I have a samples of fusable links in my gallery.
Solder all joint connections when replacing wires, and use electrical tape or heat shrink connector on solder joints.
