I didn't do it. But once you mount up shorty headers, the cover can't go back on! I think I'm going to cut it in half and turn it into a 2 piece cover? Anyone ever hear of that?
It should work, I have been running without one for a couple of years. I recently got one and hope to install it soon.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
I am a kinda learn as I go guy. I saw there wasn't one when I bought it but I never thought it wouldn't fit! The seller was supposed to get the original for me but it fell through. So I went to the bone yard and got one myself, $10. That's when I found it wouldn't go back on. I did notice that the clutch components of the late sixties junk looked better than mine. I would guess mine has been driven a while like this also. Doesn't the clutch get wet? That doesn't sound good to me.:-X23
i wouldn't worry about the clutch getting wet water would have to come in from the hole where the clutch fork comes through the side of the bell housing and rember the clutch and flyweel are turning at ....thousand rpm,s and short of a direct stream of water the clutch will be fine
