I need some advice on whether you all think I have a problem, especially you guys that are in the colder climate. Plain and simple, I think the EBP valve is very slow to open up. The heat gauge is at the 1/4 range and every morning, when I pull away from this county intersection that has a stop sign. it hesitates to gain speed. Next stop sign is 5 miles down the road and by then everything is ok. I don't plug it in as it starts just fine. I have the radiator blocked off at about 90% with cardboard to speed warm-up. Is there such a thing as a slower than normal opening EPB valve? I feel like that if the heat gauge is at 1/4 and the heater is putting out warm air...the motor shouldn't hesitate. What do you guys think?
Try unplugging the electrical connector for the EBV actuator. That will default the valve to open, and if the problem goes away you'll know that was it.
The ebv goes by oil temp - not water temp - for when to stop operating. On my truck - the stock gauge is most of the way to the middle range before my EBV stops completely - on my aftermarket water temp gauge - it's about 160* before it shuts off. It's not always at the same temp though - I guess because the oil temp is not exactly the same as the water temp is.... And yes - the truck is blowing good heat before it shuts off.... From your description - it sounds like your truck acts just like mine as far as the EBV goes.
My '01 stays on for about the same temp, but if I put my foot into it she opens right up. I'd try what Cookie said and then at least you know whether its a problem.
Or, you could buy a bigger and badder turbo and rationalize the expense
