rear axle work
we had some fun and did a 3 way swap and change, puting 513's into a 02 sc 5.4 with 42 inch tires. 456's from the 02 into my 05 and my 410's into a 02 psd.
tools needed but not talked about are a big hd 1/2 air gun, sockets of 3/4, 13/16, 1 and 1/8 for the pinion gear nut. a depth gage set, dail indicator set. 1/2 torqe wrench. inch pound torqe wrench of the T head type to check pinion preload and spin when crushing the new sleve. big hammers, some assorted brass punches, some heavy. bearing seperators to pull bearings off. and a 20 ton press near by.
took about 4 hours each on the rears and just over 5 per truck for the fronts due to esof front ends and two trucks with bad u-joints on the axles.
all i can say is what a difference in each truck, esp.the 5.4 with its 8 inch lift and super sized tires. the psd had 4 inches and so so large tires.
