My 73 F-100 heater blower works on all select speeds, but if I select HI after a couple of minutes the circiut breaker pops. It does the same thing on the other speeds but it takes longer for the CB to pop. I can't think of what could be the problem. Bad ground?
I looked at my Haynes wiring diagram and from what I see and whats in the book don't match. 1) The wiring colors don't match 2) two wires from the switch connector are spliced. The wiring diagram is for 74-78 F100s but Im assuming it should be the same for a 73. Also the truck used to have A/C but the compressor was removed. Any ideas?
Sounds like the blower motor is getting hot and drawing too many amps. It will take longer to get hot at slower speeds. Without using a DC amp clamp to verify, it's hard to be sure.
What LX said, it may also have a wheel full of crap and it's drawing too much current to spin the extra weight. You'll know that as soon as you pull it out, call your local supplier and make sure they have one in stock before you do it just incase you need the new one.
I agree, I would suspect the blower motor too. There is a good tech article (Articles/Specs link at top) with steps to replace the heater core in a a/c pickup. Follow these steps then the blower motor is right behind the heater core. It takes some time but is not difficult. Might want to replace the heater core now too if it hasn't been done for several years, since you will have it out anyway.
