they also have the crappy mirrors that flop around.
My '97 XLT has those crappy little mirrors. The passenger side one doesn't flop around though. The driver's side flops REAL bad, due to a "custom" mirror modification (see gallery). They are so small that I ended up gluing a 4" fisheye on them and don't really use the flat glass at all.
They are manually adjustable, the power ones are bigger. I think the power mirrors are part of the "power equipment group" along with windows and locks.
My XLT has no power stuff, manual tranny, all that. Just A/C and it HAD an AM/FM radio with cassette player. Nothing else really, tilt column and tach. I think it's just a random designation lol.
I have a 99' XLT extended cab 4-door. It has power windows, locks, tilt, cruise, a/c, cd, cassette, tint, slider, 4x4 and a 5 speed as well as cloth seats. The only thing I don't like about the truck is the feel of the clutch. It is the worst clutch I think I have ever owned. It is up too high before it engages and is sometimes a little grabby. I guess there is one more thing I dont like about the truck; reverse is geared way to high.
lericha, sounds like your '94 might have been an STX. They had emblems that said "Ranger" only. All older STX's were 4X4. Most STX's were loaded. Very similar to the FX4's of today.
Ranger XL's are the base models, so to speak. Manual Everything, can be had without A/C, rubber mat instead of carpet, usually vinyl bench seat. Steel painted Wheels, silver or black dull painted bumpers, and lots of other little things. Eariler models were know as Ranger Custom's.
Ranger XLT's were and probably are the most versitile as far as option content goes. Usually CD players, cloth, carpet, A/C, and chrome bumpers are standard. However I know you could not get the 4.0L in 2005 in an XLT. Power equipment group has always been optional in the XLT's.
You COULD NOT get the 4.0L with the XLT? No way something is wrong with that. The loaded model and it doesn't have the "loaded" engine?
Hmm...I looked. No 4.0L with the XLT in '06. However, if you want to waste your money and throw Ford cash, you can give them 24,000 and you'll finally have the option.
If something happens to my Ranger, I won't be getting a new one, just for that reason. I can get a Colorado for less money, even if I have to custom order the manual tranny. Their 3.5L I-5 has more hp/trq than the 4.0L V6, kinda sad. Oh well, my honest opinion, that's a downright stupid way for Ford to make money off of us.
Y'all got me curious. The Ranger XLT is not available as a 2wd, reg. cab with the 4.0. All other styles seem to be available with that engine though. Don't know why they won't sell you whatever combination you want, but that's what the Ford site shows.
You could probably custom order it. Just like you have to custom order manuals in some full size vehicles. It took a long time to get a 6 speed manual in my grandmother's SUV.
I looked and I believe john112deere is correct. The 4.0L is available in an XLT, just not in the 2WD Regular Cab SWB.
I went to Ford earlier this year to possibly order a new Ranger. They told me the 4.0 wasn't available, but I wanted it in a XLT Regular Cab 4X2 6-Foot. That explains it. I wanted a manual, too. They said I had to get 4X4 in order to get the 5 Speed and 4.0L. I couldn't afford 4X4, so I just told them to forget it and call me when I could order a truck like I wanted.
Hmmmm 6-speed manual in grandma's SUV... sounds like my kind of car. I gotta have a manual!!!
Lol yeah it was a long story, I had a little influence on the purchase. It was a GMC Yukon GT she picked on the lot. I'll have to look at the engine but the thing was HUGE, so I was like "you should go for a stick shift" and she knew how to drive it and was comfortable with it, so she told the guy if he would put a stick behind it, she'd buy it. She paid cash no less.
So I see my 81 year old grandmother driving around in this bohemeth of a speed-driven SUV shifting gears with the seat all the way up and forward so she can see over the dash and still hit the clutch...
Yeah it always amuses me. It is a bit of a pain to adjust the seat every time I get in.
I also don't like that clutch, it's got a "high performance" car-like feel to it. Takes a little getting used to, especially from my high resistance truck clutch. But once you get used to it that thing will run nicely. I love the idle sound too.
Whats up with the Ranger XLT not having power windows/locks? You never hear of a F-150 XLT with man. windows/locks. Oh well, my dad has a 2000 ranger XLT with nothing extra but CD player and carpet. I've even seen new Ranger XLT's around here without even chrome bumpers. You've got to give it to Ford for finally killing the crappy side mirrors. All of the new Ranger's come with the "power-looking" side mirrors.
