I thought I had a 1968 Ford F-100,but now I don't know. The VIN numbers is on the rear face of the drivers side door.It is suppose to be on the right side of the cowl top under the hood. Can anyone help me out with this. I think the 67-72 parts are changeable but are any other years close to these changeable like the 66 ? Again ,Thanks for all the info .
If you have a LMC book you can look up your VIN number in it. It should be on your drivers door just below the latch assbembly. Or you can post it here and some one will look it up for you.
Charles,
The LMC and BOTP books both say it should be under the hood, but mine is on the door.Is there any way I can find out what year the truck really is?The title says it's a 1968 but I'm not sure. Thanks for your help.
the doors could have been replaced with later doors. the tag on the cowl or the stamp on the passenger side frame rail near the front would tell you for sure.
i had the same question awhile ago. My VIN plate is on the door, and i have a 68 F100. I was told that late model 68's posted them on the door if your truck came with a certain package. I don't remember which one it was, but all i know is i have a 1968 custom cab, 360, 4 on the floor, LWB.
I have looked on the side and bottom and where I can on the top of the frame rail and I do not see a number or where a number had been . Can someone pinpoint me where it should be near the front on the pass. side. Thanks again for all you gents help.I just would like to know what year this really is.I am beginning to think it might be a 67,68 and 69.
On my 67...it is in two places.....under the hood, passenger side on the top of the frame rail (in my truck, this one is sideways and runs off the rail! lol - it was hard to see at first, use a wire brush and such to scour the area....)
It is also (apparently as I have not seen this myself yet) stamped further down the same rail pretty much under the seat in the cab....I have tried mirrors and all sorts of ideas to look at this one and can't see diddly...I gues I will have to wait until I replace the cab mounts.
My truck has a 69 VIN...but I figured out it was a 1967 by the various 1967 only cab details....You may want to see if there were any "1968-only" details that you can look for.
The stamped number as posted is on top of the passenger side frame rail, just forward of where the axle crosses under. The digits are about 1/8" high and run length wise with the rail. It can be hard to find sometime, but it is there.
did you ever hear the one bout back in the day pre 1980 or so when you purchased a vehicle in one state and brought it into another state it would be titled to the year that you brought into that new state?

yeah my 68 is on the door too. i am pretty sure my truck is a composite though. who, you might check & see if the parts are more than one color... like check under the inner door panel etc.
i bought my truck as a 68, but I have side lights on the rear of the bed, on the expression line (crease) & 68s were supposed to have reflectors, in another location instead??
on the hood, there is the front badging on both sides : "F100." But one side is a refelctor, the other is just metal. and i had her for years before noticing! lol.
she came with a 302 also. hmmm.... in 68? maybe she was a secret next generation laboratory mule *wink*
my tailgate's got a shiny insert but my old landlord's '68 had a plain embossed one.
i want to go find all the VINs lol.
My dad lived in central California. in the sticks, as a kid, and he had a '34 ford 5-window sedan that he pretty much built from scratch with his older brother helping him, while he was waiting to become old enough to get his license. Anyway: he bought a v-8 corvette engine from a wreck, and put it in the '34. He said that then when the car was done and it was time to register & get plates for it, it had to be registered as a Chevrolet because of the engine. I don't think it had to be reg'd as a 'vette though... but i am certain he told me his title called it a chevy. this would have been around, '58-60. san joaquin county, CA
sorry to blather on like that, but that thing about the model year changing made me remember that.
i have a similar problem. i cant find any plate except for one that is "screwed" not rivited to the radiator support and it is just a bunch of numbers i cant make any sense of
