One tool not mentioned yet is a digital camera and a computer to store the images on. It is not a toy - although it is fun to upload pictures of your progress.

The best use for it is to snap a picture of what every you are dismantling as you go, so you can put it back together later. Even if you know what your are doing sometimes it is hard to remember which part or wire went where a few days, months, or years down the road.

Gloves,heavy leather,cotton,welding,and latex for chemicals. Bandaids, antiseptic. Extra lightbulbs, shop towels, phone in garage, zip lock baggies/markers, job logbook, small fridge of beer.

If you are going to do the engine work yourself, you need a good torque wrench, I have a 3/8 amd 1/2 drive and use both quite a bit.

I added an electric impact wrench and a sawsall to my inventory this past year and found them to be very helpful. Also consider an engine stand...

Safety gear. Face sheild, ear plugs or muffs and dust mask. Paint/rust removal and weld grinding are noisy, dusty, and have lots of stuff flying around. Develop good habits and use it every time. Leather welding gloves and a welding hat under your welding helmet are a good idea, also.
