Gauge Installation
I'm not sure if I want to do it myself or not. I'm sure I have all the tools, and I wrench on my motorcycles and boat a ton.
How hard is EGT gauge installation?
And any ideas where I might look for someplace to install one for me? If it wasn't too expensive, I'd just have it done rather then mess with it myself.
I live in Milwaukee, Wi
I look in to having a company in Las Vegas do it and they were pricing it for around $250.00 (labor only) to install the X-Monitor. After installing the pyro probe the rest took about 30 minutes. Good luck.
Be careful when taping the exhaust manifold though (tap shallow first and check for fit) as their relatively thin cast and can easily bottom out a pipe/probe fitting if taped to deep.. An easy run with the lead wire through the firewall grommet/s.. I have a pic of my Isspro EGT gauge mounted in my old 03/6.0 in my gallery and for probe position (although there are others positions) and lead routing.. The cup/gauge position in the 03 was a custom fit Isspro cup and would work for an 06, but the 06 lower dash bezel/panel is a little more 'forward' to the steering wheel.. I checked my 05 for fit and will remount it there if I ever get the time! Just a bit harder to get everything 'tucked' in for 05-06.. 'Very functional' position if you only need EGT ect.. If you go multipal gauges, then the mounting options are many.. Above the rear veiw, top/bottom of dash, pillar pod ect. or even monitor panels.. Do a search for EGT/Probe gauge mounting ect as LasVegas F250 stated for drilling techniques such as drilling with engine running/greasing the bit and probing for metal afterwards.. Don't want anything of size to go through the turbo.. 'This' probe mounting position works well as drilling almost upside down yields to the particles falling 'out' of the cast material.. Some go Post turbo probe for safety, but the readings less accurate.. And then there's always manifold removal as some here have done, but isn't really needed IMO..
