I have a holley 600,vac. secondaries, elec. choke, single line carb sitting on my '78 302.It flooded the truck out to the point it would not run at all a few days ago. When I took the sight screws out gas poured out forever.I took it apart, cleaned real well, blew out with air several times, installed new needles and gaskets and put it back on the truck.Guess what?Exact same problem It doesn't matter how low the floats are adjusted fuel will pour out as soon as it's started.I've taken it apart 3 times now, made sure the float was good, needles were not sticking, still no difference.I thought maybe the secondary float was bad making the primary flood back thru the feed tube but it is adjusted right.I tried using water to see if maybe the needle was leaking(with float off of truck of course)and it seemed to seal off just fine.I can stick a small screwdriver thru the sight plug hole anbd feel the float is plenty hi but it still lets gas pour out of the hole.Any guesses or ideas would be much appreciated.
It sounds like you have too much fuel pressure and it keeps blowing the needle of its seat and even thou you have installed a new one it still will do it if the F/P is too high. You may need to put a fuel regulator between the pump and the carb to adjust the pressure down to 4 to 6 psi or what the carb can handle without blowing the seat.
Holley Carbs are the most tempermental POS I refuse to own one or work on one.
Thanks for the super quick response.I thought of the too high fuel pressure too but I figured the stock pump wouldn't do that.I've owned this truck only a few months, the previous owner told me one of the main reasons he was selling it was because it would run real well for a couple weeks and then have a day where it would barely run at all.He never figured out what the deal really was. That's pretty much what it does to me,when it's right it's great, then the next day it'll run like junk and clear up by itself.
