gas struts for hood

Since everyone loves my broomstick with the custom billet ends to prop my hood, I feel its time to advance to a new level. I've seen a few truck where they installed gas strut shocks. I was wondering if anyone has installed these and if they could post a pic and some info on what shocks they used. Anyone know if they have a kit for the 53-56? I'm talking the stock hinges, not the reverse tilt. Thanks guys.

Ed -

I used gas struts for my reverse tilt hood. I selected the attach points and got an idea of the weight they would have to hold (your hinges are taking up some of it) and the length I would need. My local Pep Boys store keeps their stock in a rack in the back of the store and let me go back to the rack and try different ones. They have a very complete selection of Sachs Stabilus brand struts. They have a lifetime warrantee, so save the receipt. If the ones you first select don't work, you can return them.

I did the same thing to select struts for the tonneau. Worked for me...

I'll stop by PepBoys today and check out what they have. I measured the distance of about where I want to install them. It looks like a 15" strut would work. Thanks Randy.
