checking codes on '97

checking codes on '97

Check engine light just came on, on my 97 Explorer. Can you check them yourself or do I have to get a dealer to scan it??

If you can do it yourself anyone got a site or can let me know, thanks!

I believe you have to have an OBDII scanner to pull the codes. Most Autozones will pull them for free. Get the codes pulled and post them here for more help.

Thats great they will scan for free, to bad I dont have autozone in Canada. I'm gonna go buy my buddy's shop today I think he has a scanner, hopefully it's nothing to major

Well I got starter/alarm done today and the installer said my battery terminal was cracked, ready to fall off. Once they hooked it back up and was ready to rock, it never came on. Also a couple days ago the truck just stalled out when I was at a stop sign when I hit the gas. Started right up again...I'm thinking something(s) wasnt getting enough juice?

When it died, maybe the bad terminal lost connectivity. If the CEL stays off, and you don't have any dying/starting issues, I wouldn't worry about it.
