Lightbulb Steering wheel swap

Hi!

I have a '92 flareside XLT with the leather steering wheel. I am wanting to buy a new steering wheel for a 94-96 truck from NPD (The ones with 4 spokes and the airbag.) Is it possible to just unbolt the original and bolt the newer one in... aren't they exactly the same inside, (apart from the airbag)... do the connectors for the cruise match up, and will it just bolt in the same way? Has anyone done this?

Thanks!

Michael

it should work just fine.

the pick ups that connect to the column should match up, it would have been the cheapest way for FORD to do it.

make sure of npd return policy before you buy it just to be safe.

pick-ups? do you mean the connectors for the cruise, or something else?

If you or anyone else reading this has changed a steering wheel in one of these trucks, could you please tell me what was involved in doing so, and if this is an easy or hard task... to me, it seems that I can just remove the pad from the factory wheel, disconnect the wires, and bolt(s)? (How many I wonder)... and just lift the steering wheel off and put the new one on in reverse order. am I right, is this basically how you do it, or are there clocksprings and junk like that to deal with?

Thanks!

what i mean is that in the column is a circular ring that makes contact with the connections in the wheel to work cruise, horn etc.

the ring is called the air bag sliding contact and it shows in manual that it is in both air bag and non air bag wheels.

it looks like you can use either wheel.

alright! sounds good! Thanks for the info...... I just have one last question before I go hunting for a wheel... am I right about the installation? Just take the pad off, unbolt, and then do it backwards on the new wheel? I just got back from outside and I pulled the pad off the wheel.... It looks to me that is all I have to do.

Thanks,
[michael]

i will copy the instructions for you from manual when i get a chance, but yes,it is one large bolt on both.

the abs pad is touchy as you will see from the instructions.

haha... ok, thanks

If I can, I plan to remove the blast-cap device so it doesn't decide to randomly explode in my face... hopefully I can do that without it going off. lol
