Just returned home from a 200 mile trip to Ct., While i was in ct, ran out of washer fluid went to open hood and nothing. Second time this happened in a year , last time ford dealer replaced cable and only charged me $160.00 Anyway dealer can't even look at it till late next week. Can anyone tell me if theres a way to open the hood without cutting the cable to try and pull the latch to release it? Last time it was a costly mistake. Thanks
I have had the same problem for about 2 years now. Never had it worked on though. I hit 2 pine trees laying in the road during an ice storm 2 years ago. I just chalked it up to something from that even though I didnt have very much damage. I did find that pulling the lever several firm times works. It is like the cable is stretched. Once I get it open, I put some WD-40 on it and it works fine for a while.
Try holding the lever in the "open" position while someone else nudges the hood closed. Sometimes the hood is slightly out of adjustment jamming the latch closed. The nudge lets it release.

I just had this problem last week... to get the hood open, I had someone hold the lever, and I just picked the hood up without it "popping" liek it should. Once open I sprayed the latch with wd-40 and cycled it with my hands a few times... So far it's worked.
Mine does the same thing. Have not been able to figure out how to open without pulling the handle. Last time mine did it, I gave up and drove down the road. After about 5 minutes of driving, the stupid think popped open. Now it works again, at least for now.....
