Smile 2002 Ford Explorer Help!

Hey guys, I was reciently looking for a newer used vehical and was wondering whaether a 2002 Ford explorer is a good vehical to get? Is there any recalls, problems that I should be aware of since I think this is the first year of the newer design, before putting down 10 grand on this vehical? Specs: The vehical in question is a 2002 Ford Explorer XLS 4x4 milage 66,575, 4L V-6 5spd auto VIN 1FMZU72EX2ZC27770 $10,858 dealer said he could lower the price to 10,000 out the door, is this a good deal or should I keep looking, any help would be greatly appriciated.

You can check cars.com to see what similiar Explorers go for. Is this a Ford dealership or a used car dealer? For 10k, I'd want to know what kind warranty they are offering. Also, tell the dealer that you want a car fax report on it. It it's ever been leased or auctioned, I'd walk away from it.

Not sure if I'd be scared by the 2002 being the first year of the redesign. Mine is a 2002 with 107,000 miles on it. Other than maintenance (by the book), and a couple recalls, all I've done is replaced one idler pulley under the hood and that was done under warranty.

Its by far the best American vehicle I've owned. I had a 2000 GMC Sierra prior to it that had 117k on it when I got rid of it. The list of repairs was many pages long with that.

On the same note, I'm looking at a 2002 explorer sport util 2d 4.0L I think its a 2wd. 35,000 miles on it - The dealer's opening price was 8995, and I can probably get this guy down closer to 8k if i'm reading him right.

Doing some searching the only major problem that seems to be consistent is the auto trans seems weak, but this is a standard... any problems there? Anything else I should know about this car?

Thanks for the help!!!
