Last nite I went to a Motor Spectacular in Fargo ND. They had monster trucks, snowcross, quad racing, and then to my dismay...A pickup derby. I am very well familiar with the car demolition derbys since I drive in them myself. But when I sat down in the arena last nite and got to looking at the pickups there were 4 73-79 Fords down there:-X23
2 of them were well suited to be down there since they looked like they had been totally thrashed before they even had been planned for the derby. But the other 2 looked almost cherry from where I was sitting. I wanted to go rob some parts, especially the box for my pickup at home.
Anyways a 65 Ford was also in there and was whooping some major a$$ until his driveline broke. Then it came down to a 79 Ford and a 69 Chevy. They ended up calling it a draw and splitting the purse. Anyways I just thought I would let you guys know that even under the toughest condtions, FORD is still the best
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Feb-02 AT 03:30 PM (EST)]Another point of view that may **** OFF a few of the locals , but I'm gonna say it anyway---I don't understand why anybody spends the money and their time to really fixup an older truck and then drive it into a man made MUD hole---I have to work in that damn Mud when I build fences for ranchers and it is nuthin but a pain in the transfer case---You gotta be plumb crazy to act like a Pig with a steering wheel in your hands----ON THE OTHER HAND---It's a FREE country and we can all choose to get our kicks in anyway that's legal----Maybe I'm just showing my age----39 and holding---fd :-X11
Have you ever driven in a derby?? The reason alot of guys do it is for the fun and the pure adrenaline rush. You cannot imagine the feeling you have when you drive through the gates with 5 other cars and wait for the green flag. Its an awesome natural high. I gladly spend time building derby vehicles especailly the paint. I spent 15 hours on my paint this year and plan on doing 30+ hours on it this year because I like it. My 2 cents.
I know I should have kept my big mouth shut---As the song says"--Don't criticize or abuse --till you've walked a Mile in my Shoes"---I just like to take care of my "old ford truck---"Everybody gets their Jollies from different Follies" , fd:-X11
