I have a 1995 350-E Ford motorhome. The speedometer (needle) has gone beserk! At zero mph it registers zero. I go 2 or 3 mph forward (or backwards) and the needle shoots all the way over to 90 only to return when I get back down to zero. I put a new speed sensor on the rear differential to no avail.
What might I try next to correct this? The odemeter is working just fine.
Thanks in advance, Don
Here is what was told to me on this same chat line.
"Your speedometer head itself is bad. Every time the needle swings way high, it's telling the computer you're going over 100 mph or whatever the speed limiter is set at. So the computer shuts the truck down as if you're hitting the speed limiter."
"You get a new head in a junkyward cluster or on ebay. Don't worry about whether it had a tach or not, or automatic or manual, as the center speedometer is the same in all clusters."
I havn't had a chance to try this yet, so hopfully it works out. What I have done is replace the fuel filter, speed sensor, pvc valve, distributor, distributor cap, spark plug wires, spark plugs, idle air control, and had the computer checked. NONE of these worked, so don't waste the money unless it needs to be done for other reasons.
