I have an 86 F150 302 EFI, the other day I went to start it (warm) the key went all the way over, no spring tension, I had run power so I crossed the solenoid and got started but I couldn't put it in gear (Automatic AOD). Any idea what would cause these 2 things at once without any previous problem?
Thanks griff777
Thanks but I've replaced the both ignition switches(keyed and electric). I took the steering wheel and shroud off the actuator rod isn't broken but I think it came out of position, didn't find any broken parts or clips. Have to figure out exactly how it's supposed to sit in there. Thanks again griff777
Just theorizing, but what if something has happened with your transmission linkage? It shows in park in the truck, but something is wrong somewhere in the vicinity of the neutral safety switch? That would explain the not cranking part.....
I found my problem it;s a broken actuator rod, there are two rods one square and one to the key and electric switches. The square one broke off sticking it in park. Thank you griff777
PS In my steering column there are 2 what I think are set screws? they are theaded on the inside, has anyone run across these before. I have to remove these to get my new rod in (tilt steering). Thanks griff777
You know, I have taken mine apart several times and I know what you are talking about but for the life of me I cant remember what they hold in place?????There is a ford tool to pull them or you can find small bolts the same thread, thread them in and pry against a screw driver to pull them out. If you are talking about what I am talking about they are just pull-out push-in keepers.
