Ive got a 600 CFM Edelbrock Carb, manual choke. Since it got cold out i literally have to pump the gas 20-50times after it sits overnight to get the motor to start. Its got plenty of fuel so i totally stumped on this one.
After i get the motor to run and warm up, i give it 1/2" of pedal and it wants to cut out. It always cuts out if its in drive/reverse and i gota floor it to get it to stay alive, very dangerous at intersections when it snows. Any Ideas?! Thanks!
SImilar problems with our 600cfm Edelbrock. Not sure exactly why, either. However once ours starts,it does run fine...its just the starting. Manual choke seems to be functioning fine. It was to the point getting it started that it was almost running the battery down. Went and bought a can of starting fluid, but never ended up using it, since I bought teh starting fluid it has been starting fine. ?????
Did adjust the idle mix screws on the front, come to think of it. Have you ried that?
how old is this carb? sounds like a simple rebuild/good cleaning would fix things. sounds like there may be trash in a jet or air bleed somewhere.
It could also be something to do with the acel pump
get a rebuild kit to replace pump diaphram and needle & seats. THroughly soak and clean the part sin carb cleaner and put everything back together. Edelbrocks are a piece of cake to redo
good luck
btw does it idle?? how does it run with part throttle/just off idle?
Its been rebuilt about amonth ago, it was tacken down to the last screw and cleaned. Ive got an inline fuel filter before the carb and its clean. Its idles great but when you give it just a little gas it will cut out.
360 FE. As for the rods and jets...there the ones that come in the rebuild kit, stock maybe? What do you mean the position of the arm on the accel pump?
The accel pump rod has 3 holes in it, you can adjust which hole the brass arm goes into which changes the amount it moves, and the size of the squirt the accel pump gives, you could try experimenting to see if it changes your situation at all.
It may be a little rich, what do the plugs look like?
Oh...i see what you talking about. I belive when i press the pedal fully the pump is as far as it can go, but ill experiment with it. I will admit i did somthing stupid with the plugs, last time i checked they where kinda fowled due to my vaccum advance not working in my distributor or atleast i think thats what the problem was! Im getting some accel ignition compentent which include: 10.8mm wires, accel 52 series performace distributor, Accel Super coil, accel plugs (not the $20/each ones) but some good accel plugs and im hoping that will fix most of my engine problems. I can hear a ticking sound, prolly the valves which gives me a reason to take the heads off. ;D
