Best Spark Plug?
My 78 F-150 351 had "AC R45TS" spark plugs in it when I bought it. Auto Zone lists R43TS plugs for this engine. The present plugs are two steps hotter, I am told, and they have given good service. Any ideas on which is the best way to go? Should I go with the recommended plug?

Bill, my Haynes manual lists ASF42C (or equivalent), for all 78's. If the 45's electrodes still looked good, then I would put 45's back in. They will burn a little cleaner for lower speed, short trips.
BTW, the 79 model 351M uses ASF52C. I suspect this is because they had catalytic converters.

Thanks for the reply Loneranger. The plugs I took out had a hard brown deposit on the electrode and tip. No evidence of oil and the electodes were not worn. The Clymer Shop Manual (which I don't like)says these deposits are caused from fuel and/or oil additives. I don't use additives, so maybe it was from using cheap gas. I usually drive 55-60 mph and most trips are at least 20 or more miles. I plan on towing my trailer to the mountains this summer, but no extended trips under load.
