I am in need of new tires. I went out and got a couple quotes as follows.
265/70/17
Wild Country XTX (50K tread) $119/tire mounted and balanced
Michellin unsure of which one... 40k tread $110 mounted/balanced
I'm leaning towards the Wild Country's because they are a Good Year product. Can I do better on price or quality?
We get a lot of snow here in Iowa (that is up until global warming kicked in) and need something that can do well in it. I'm not opposed to ponying up extra money for a better tire....saves money in the long run. I just want to know what other midwesterners are using and how you like them?
If you do a decent amount of hauling, or have heavier loads in the back, I would steer clear from michelins, they have a soft weak sidewall, produce a fairly good ride though.
I have had nothing but EXCELLENT experiences with the BFG Goodrich All terrain KO's. More expensive but I think well worth it. I too know the snows of Iowa from my younger years and I think the BFG's will do you good. We had a storm here in Colorado back in 2003 when it dumped 49 inches in 24 hours. I was the only one in the neighorhhood getting out for the first 3 days after the snow. I am now on Procomps all terrains so I have yet to try them since we really haven't gotten any snow in town to play in.
