The check engine light is on, had the code read and was told it was a pressure loss in the fuel tank. I was told to buy a new gas cap and it would be fixed. I bought one from the Ford mothership and light came back on after awhile. I don't have the money for someone to dink around to find the problem...
I have a 2000 Ranger XLT 4x2 with the 4 cylinder 2.5L engine.77,000 miles. Small cab, small bed. Has airconditioning, auto tranny etc. Did the egr warranty change and upgraded the onboard computer which gave me better mileage. Now my mileage is ok, but not as good as it was.
Only other problems I have ever had is I had the oxygen sensor replaced and a leaf spring broke. Currently the rABS don't seem to work and the engine sounds like something like the fan is hitting something making a bang sound every few seconds, louder in colder weather.
Check out the link "the EVAP system" in the tech info thread at the top of this forum, common problem. If you not sure about the code some local parts stores will pull them for free.
The local places never get any reading on the readers, they say my plug is broke. Yet at the biggers shops they have no issues. I think there is a grounding problem with the plug for those readers that run off the trucks power.
I dunno, that bang seems to be common among older cars. I just don't want to think my truck is getting old I guesss. And its almost unnoticable in the summer.
