96 Bronco exhaust sys question

As I said, 96 bronco, 351w, and the whole rig is stock. It looks like it has two cats. If that is true, are they both required to pass emissions tests.

That's factory and yes they'd normally be required (for visual inspection) but it all depends on what state you live in and what their laws are.

The second cat is not required unless your "E.N's" (Emissions ****'s) perform a visual inspection and they know how the exhaust is supposed to look in OEM form. Modern catalytic converters combine the elements that were originally done in two parts on these trucks so replacements are going to do the job just as well if not better than the older setup. By '96 I was under the impression that there was only one cat. The chamber at the base of the Y-pipe is a collector so the exhaust is sure to gallop past the O2 sensor down there. Only the OEM Y-pipe has this aftermarket replacements do not and they still pass emissions testing with flying colors.

because your is obd-II you must have a cat on there regardless because of the 3rd o2 sensor. so if you must replace it but do not permantly remove it because the computer will not be happy

You also have the option (if it is for off road use only) to use the fooler for the O2 sensor like they use on the Mustang off road pipes..
