Engine Identification
Just acquired a 66 slick and looking for some direction to identify the engine.
The vehicle ident tag says it is a 66 however the engine code (Y) would indicate it is a 67 motor(352 or ?)
The air cleaner has a 302 sticker on it, however as you know the 66 did not come with this engine.(?)
Where, on the engine block itself, would I locate some form of identification?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My 66 also has a engine code "y", it was a 352ci. Some of my books do not list a "y" code for 66, but some do. A FE, the intake extends under the valve covers, over all the FE will be a larger engine than the 302. the 302 air cleaner will fit on the FE engine.

352, or any FE block, the intake goes about an inch under the valve covers. on a 302, the valve cover sits only on the head.
The 352 also has a stamp on the front of the block, on the driver's side, just above the fuel pump and below the head. It should read 352 or 105 (in mirror image)
Add some picks to your user gallery and someone can identify it.

The FE motor is also identifiable by the plugs, which angle toward the middle of the motor ( \\ // ) if you are standing next to the fender looking in. For 1965, 66 and 67, the "Y" designation was a 352, which became a 360 starting in 1968 and on.
