belt driven PS booster pump
I have a 1974 f-250 and was wondering if it is possible to do away with the power steering pump and just put 2 brass plugs in the steering box and call it a day.
can I do this???????
or not?????
will my steering still work????

Yikes Doug, why would you want to do that! So many guys here struggle and go out of their way to add power steering I can't believe you'd want to take it off! What's wrong with it that you would want to remove it? It can't be that bad! Ya might end up with arms like Popeye after you give it up!

Get a rebuilt pump, it should cost under $30. You will need to turn in the old one to get a core charge refund. And you have to use your old pulley, the rebuilt ones come without a pulley. Also it takes a special power steering pump pulley puller to remove and install the pulley without damaging the new and old pumps. The parts store may be able to change the pulleys for you but be sure to install it on the new pump at the same depth (distance from the pump housing) so your pulley lines up with the crankshaft and water pump pulleys.
