I ordered a new truck
06 250SD V10 4x4 Automatic Supercab Shortbed. I am going to put a Donahoe 4.5" lift and BFG 315/70R17. I am stupid because I ordered the 4.10 instead of the 4.30's because I've always kept my trucks stock and didn't do enough research before hand The truck is supposed to be delivered in like 2 weeks. I almost thought about weaseling out of the the deal because I haven't signed ANYTHING, or put any money down. What would you do? Will it really make much of a difference? I can't even sleep. I've become obsessed with my terrible mistake. I need advice bad!
Trey, I got some good news for ya brother.........................It ain't that bad.
With 362 HP on tap, 440 ft/lbs o' TQ, you ain't gonna be disappointed what so ever. Those 315's won't make much of a dent in your ride. Slight, yes. Big, no.
Don't sweat it man, you'll be more than happy with that truck. You're only talking a tire that is 1.5 - 2 inches larger in diameter. Well within the 10% rule for tire size changes before doing gears.
You'll still get in and have the big silly BSEG factor going. Enjoy brother!
No. The most important thing is that you don't have the 3.73's. That would have been a mistake to worry about and begin making plans for a gear swap. With the 4.10's, enjoy. Later, when you deceide 37's aren't tall enough, you can swap in 4.56's
It isn't worth the trouble. There isn't much difference between the 4.1 and the 4.3 ratios. Would it help with 34.5" tires? Yes, but it won't hardly matter unless you plan to tow heavy. Just make sure you get the computer set for the new tire size and I bet you'll never notice the difference once that's done. You just wont be doing any burnouts with the 315s on, and that's probably a good thing.
The reason I am so worried now is because I currently drive an '01 F-250 super cab longbed v-10 auto 2wd with 4.10 gearing and although I hardley ever tow I have to REALLY put the hammer down to pass quickly at hwy speeds. It seems to me now that I have spent some time researching the subject that since I never go faster then about 90 mph, I am just never going to be using the engine to it's full potential with the lower gearing. I also figure that 4.10 effective ratio is probably the lowest you would want to be on an '06 or else they would still offer a 3.73. Opinions?
The truck you ordered has the 5R110 Torqshift 5 speed auto trans and has 362 hp. If you test drove one you probably noticed a big difference between your truck and the 06. The 5R110 trans is the best overdrive auto Ford has put behind a gas, or any engine.
You will be able to engage the tow haul to get max revs out of the engine for hammer down driving. I use it all the time.
Get your truck, lift it and break it in. (takes about 6k miles for it to really come alive and 10k to fully break in). If you're unhappy with the performance after that the go with the 4.56s. The you will be back to the 4.3 effective ratio (with a little room to grow!).
Getting a new truck should be fun, Relax. And if you didn't get to test drive one Jordan Ford in San Antonio had a V10 4x4 lariat crew cab on the lot the other day. Run up there and take it for a spin.
It's been said in the above posts, but to make it unanimous - don't worry about it until you want to go with a much taller tire. Sounds like the 4.10 will suit your needs with the tires you're getting.
