Just wondering if any of you guys that have been here a while could give me any help with decoding a VIN, I don't have anything but the VIN because the rest of the truck is 800 miles away. Any help you guys can give me will be appreciated.
Let me see what I can do about getting the rest of the info.
Thanks,
I really appreciate the help guys and I will try to get the rest of the info from the door jam, no such thing as too much info. Give me little while, im at work right now, I'll see what I can do.
Fishallot,
where were you able ot find this info at? Every decoder I tried gave me the same thing that MBB had. I am still working on getting the rest of the VIN.
I recently requested a build sheet for my Bronco from Ford. They used my vin to do the lookup. Along with the build details they gave me they also decoded my vin for me. What I posted above was from my vin decode from Ford, the numbers for yours are the same until after the H. Here's the complete breakdown they sent me for my vin:
1FM = Ford Multi-Purpose vehicle
E = Hydraulic Brakes, GVWR class E
U15 = Bronco 4x4
H = 5.8L EFI 351 V-8
7 = Check Digit
T = 1996 Model Year
L = Michigan Truck (Wayne, Michigan) Assembly Plant
B30628 = Consecutive Unit Number
A 17-digit combination of numbers and letters forms the vehicle identification number (VIN). The VIN is stamped on a metal tab that is riveted to the instrument panel close to the windshield. The VIN is viewable by looking through the front windshield on the driver's side. The VIN is also found on the certification label.
By looking at the 17-digit VIN, a variety of information about the vehicle can be determined.
l The first three digits identify the manufacturer and the vehicle make and type.
l The fourth digit determines the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR class) and brake system for Ford-completed trucks and MPV's. For buses and incomplete vehicles, the fourth digit determines the brake system (only).
l Digits five, six and seven identify the model or line, series, chassis, and cab or body type.
l The eighth digit points out the particular engine found in the vehicle.
l Digit nine is the VIN check digit.
l The tenth digit identifies the model year of a Ford-completed vehicle, or the model year of the incomplete vehicle, if sold by Ford as an incomplete vehicle.
l The eleventh digit determines the assembly plant.
l Digits 12 through 17 make up the sequence serial and warranty number. Digit 12 uses the letter A until the production or sequence of 99,999 units (digits 13 through 17) is reached. Letter A then becomes B for the next production sequence of vehicles.
Dhepler,
I can see from your profile that you area retired GM right? How is life treating you in GA? I am currently serving as a damage controlman on the USS Nicholas, got a little over 5 years in and coming up on the decision point of my career. Just thought i would say howdy since you posted here.
