2 wheel drive. My nephew borrowed it and it came back broke. Towed in actually. Not sure yet what really is up. Looking for feedback and or suggestions on what I Have found out. Drive shaft spins when in gear but nothing at the rear. Has he busted an axle or, is the rear dusted? I have an f100 rear that I believe would bolt up. Also have a complete 350 dually drum to drum with springs. What mods if any might pertain to installing either of them on the 250? I have dropped and replaced assemblies before but never got into doing any rear end repair work. Thanks in advance for replies.
You didn't mention any noise. If there are broken gears, there most likely will be some chunkin n clunkin going on when the pinion is turning. If everything is turning freely, then most likely it's a broken axle. Good luck.
My vote is for a broken axle shaft. If that IS the problem you can buy a replacement shaft from a junkyard for CHEAP! Your toughest challenge will be getting the old stub out of the axle tube. Once you do that the new (used) shaft will go right in. You should be able to pick one up for $20 or so, maybe less if you're lucky.
Thanks..... I think I can afford that even though I hate doing the work in the cold. Seems like I will need to go to pick a part. Working on my In-Laws dumptruck now. New manifold Gaskets. Of Course one snapped. He never heard of Antisieze I suspect.Fun Fun Fun...Other than that a Good Day Here. Hope yours has been the same. Enjoy...Ohhhhh PS....Ball Joints on an all wheel drive Jeep should be fun also. Especially in Massachusetts during the X-mas week...My brother knows nothing on automotive but he does buy the beers......Later...
