I'm back for more technical help!
I have an '85 F-150 4WD, with AT and a 5.0 out of an '84 Mustand GT with 33x12.50x15x10 tires and wheels. I have just installed, out of the box, a new Edelbrock Performer 289 intake, an Edelbrock 2" spacer,(for added torque and horsepower in the low to mid rpm's), and a Edelbrock 1406 600 cfm Performer Carb., a new high flow reverse water pump, along with a new aluminum radiator.
My headlights have a flicker in them when I'm driving on dry roads. It's not too bad when it's wet or raining. The alt. is charging pretty good, (somewhere between 13.8 & 14.2). When I have my CB radio on, you can hear static in the background when the lights start flickering. They flicker on low or high beams. I'm thinking, (and I usually get myself into more trouble than I can get out of when I start thinking), that it might be in the grounding system. What do you think?
I am thinking you are probably correct about the grounding. During all the engine and manifold swapping, you may have lost a ground strap somewhere. Go ahead and run a 10 guage ground wire from the intake manifold to the firewall. You may also want to run one from the engine block to the voltage regulator, if yours is a seperetly mounted regulator. That is what usually causes the flickering lights.
Thanks Franklin2! But I have a internal regulator. I have thought about running a ground wire from the alt. bracket to the frame and from the intake to the firewall. Will that work?
