The other day I had to use 4 wheel drive, I had not used it in a while.

Well what happened was when engaged all seemed well, Lower gear ratio, hubs locked fine, BUT when I has to give it gas with a mild load this horrible "Ching" kind of noise and the truck jerked.

It sounded almost like a manual popping out of gear. But I have an auto.

On a 1989 f-350 4x4's transter case is it gear driven or chain. I am wondering if it was kicking out of gear sort of thing.

Anyone hear of anything close to this, It is hard to explain.
