'73-'79 Front cab bushing sleeves

<!--StartFragment --> I'm replacing the cab bushings on my '79 F-150 & have a problem.

I got the rear mounts seperated (washer/sleeves), but cannot seperate the fronts....fought them hard today.

Anyone have a procedure I do not know about?

How about an extra set so I can just hit these w/ a sawzall!!

Thanks!
Doc

If the cabs off the truck, just put the bolt back in the top, screw it down a bit and whack the @#$% out of it with a hammer Sawzall works too if you have a new/spare mount.

i'm in the process of a restoration project as we speak. i baught my truck almost 14 years ago and the first thing i did was to remove the body lift. i cut all the old mounts off with a porta band and baught just the lower sleve at my local ford dealer, but like i said that was 14 years ago. the front clip mounts came out fine but i broke 3 out of 4 cab bolts. i'll take them to my friends shop and see if he can't drill the bolt out and then chase the threads. i didn't bother putting the top washer mount back in when i did it the first time to save myself the aggravation for the next time i pulled the cab. if i recall one sleeve slides into the othe and become one over the years and are impossibly to seperate.

Order a complete set of mounts and go after the old ones with a sawzall. As previously mentioned, the upper and lower sleeves slide together and WILL resist all efforts to separate them. I just went through the same thing. Also, be prepared to do some repair work on the frame brackets that the mounts sit on. Mine were so rotted that the hole was almost the size of the rubber bushing. You'll probably have the same problem if you're going to replace the core support bushings too. Good Luck

i'm in the process of looking for both front mounts and the rear cross member. i made stainless steele whashers 14 years ago when i first got the truck. after pulling the cab off last weekened i noticed that the washers were falling thru the enlarged hole due to rot. the rear cross member actually has tears in the metal from the bushing pushing thru........

I'm going to try and make mine. I haven't seen anywhere they aren't a small fortune to buy and the drawings in the ford manual make me think it shouldn't be too tricky.

I just did mine

I just did mine and I used PB blaster. I soaked them pretty good about 4 times and let them sit. I did this while I was still doing other things so they sat for a few days and soaked. Each day I just sprayed more PB on them. The cab mounts weren't real hard after this. However, my core mounts would not budge. I ended up cutting them off and ordering a new set from MAC's. I looked at a junk yard before I ordered them, the ones that I could get to easy enough just disintegrated when I put some torque to them. I thought about just making my own too but I would rather just use what was made for that job. They are simple enough to make though. I would make sure you use a bushing of some sort in the middle though if you do make your own.
