tire size change

Hey everyone,

I want to put bigger tires on my 1997 f350 srw reg cab to fill out the wheel wells a little better than the stock 235 85r16s. I am pretty sure i can fit 315 75r 16s on it without any problems. It seems to measure up but as soon as I can find a tire that size i will check to make sure. Assuming I can put these tires on with no problems, how will the size change affect my truck? (gas mileage, handling, power, etc) The stock tires are about 31in in diameter and the 315s are about 35in in diameter.

thanks for the help!

Keith

I do not think 315's have any chance of fitting on a stock height 97 without major interference. A buddy of mine runs 285/75-16 on his 97 and they fill the wheel well nicely, but they do rub a little when turned to full lock.

I agree with cookie. the 285/75's should fit and maybe some 305/70's, but I doubt the 315/75's will fit without lift and/or fender cutting.

usually on that year truck to run 315's or 35's same thing, you have to push the bumper forward or cut a little from the ends of it. It will come down to what size wheel and offset it has on it. but 16x8's with a zero offset and 315's work with just a little trimming on the front bumper usually. ocasionally I have seen them rub on the inside fender but you could trim a little their also. test fit one first to see. thats the best way

I am running 305/70R16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on a stock 4x4
I think you could get away with 315's with some minor fender rubbing
I am not sure of the exact fit issue on the older F-350 vs the 1999+

I will try one on to see if it fits before I buy and I also plan on buying wider rims (forgot to mention that). I saw a set of 315s on a newer, lifted f250 that used the stock rims and the tires bulged out a good bit. Will wider rims give me a better chance of these tires fitting on my truck??
