Headlight switch question?
Ok I have a stupid question. My 99 250 xlt when my headlights are on. I can pull the switch out to another setting. I can not do it with just the parking lights on. I cant seem to see anything happening when I do that. I have been thinking about it for a little while now. My guess is that it should turn the fog lights on if I had them. What does this part of the switch do?

The technique I use to get an "auto-on" feature with the headlights is to use a relay that engages when the headlights are turned on. This way I can run power to my lights without risking the fuse or wiring for the headlight circuit. One of the setups actually has a single pole double throw switch, so I can switch modes: auto with the headlights, off, and manual on. I used this approach twice, once for the fog lights I installed up front with the switch and the other for aux backup lights that always come on with the reverse lights without a switch.
PS: I have found that boat supply houses have a great selection of good looking switches in a variety of configs, not just dumb looking toggles or lighted rockers.
