Coolant gage 5.8

I just purcahsed a 1996 F-250 with a 5.8. I cant seem to find out why I cant get the coolant temp gage to work. I have replace the temp sensor and sending unit. The other gages work fine but I do not know what to check next. Does anybody have a suggestion? Thanks for the help.

From 95 manual temp gauge sender has only one lead red /white tracer - sender should read 74 ohms cold and 9.7 ohms hot only one lead housing makes ground connection. If you and hook a resistor of a reasonable value from lead to ground, gauge should show some deflection if it is good with ignition on. Did you by any chance change The ECT (two leads gray/red and light green/red) for computer and not the gauge sender? ECT is to left of thermostat housing and just to rear, temp sender for gauge is in line with left bank of injectors to right of t'stat housing and to rear a liitle further back looking from front of engine
I am pretty sure this should be the same for 95 and 96 but there were a lot of other changes, OBD 1 vs OBD II for 96. Hope this helps.

I changed the 2 wire sensor in the Tstat housing and the single wire sender that is to the right and inline with the injectors. A friend put in the single wire sender maybe he put teflon tape on it and its not getting ground. I suppose I could try grounding the housing with a length of wire before pulling it out. Thanks for your help.
