Heater motor

Any of you know up to what year heater motor will fit the 53-56 f-100. I am thinking about going junkin for one locally instead of buying a new one that is out of my price range this close to Christmans. My 54 has been converted to 12 volt so the stocker does not work, and man is it getting cold LOL. Andy

Ford u8sed a 12 volt motor in the late 50's (57-on ) that's is still available. You can find plenty of them in 81-early 90's Escorts. There should be plenty of those cars in the boneyards.

jomes. Take your old motor with you. Some bone yards keep such motors on shelves and you may have a lot of 12v heater motors to choose from, as Barry mentioned. Also, the same 6v heater motor may work just fine with a voltage reducer on the line leading to it. Good luck. Terry

I know you can use a late 70s Ford van motor in the stock heater box if you enlarge the hole slightly. Point is that I guess there are a bunch of possibilities.

Howdy,

I went to a National Autoparts store in Puyallup, WA and they pulled out their Siemans/VDO catalog for heater motors and I found a 12v unit in there for about $50 It's a permanent magnet motor (meaning that you can run it either direction)

They also have all the dimensions. diameter, shaft length/dia etc.

It works perfectly....the 55 F-600 has heat now!

regards,

Rick

Ya everything has gotten so expensive I usually spend a monthly budget on my 55. Doing the same thing now I live in Texas and the summers get pretty hot. My heat unit is a fresh air unit. Draws air from that side vent. The squirl cage came apart it was Plastic the motor was a junk yard motor, had a painted number on it for a junk yard inventory. Now I’ve looked at squirl cages from $300.00 on down the Thunder bird cage fits in the fender it’s 4 1/8 diameter and 2 1/2 wide. Rotates to the left. I understand my 55 F-100 is counter rotating! The original electric motor has 3 wires. Several others that fit have two wire and ground from the steel frame of the heater.
