Anybody else ran into this; When I start my truck either first thing in the morning, or after I get off work, the heater seems to run on low. After about five minutes of warming up, I can hear the heater crank up, and see the headlights get brighter. Normal?

Injun46 you are correct. The glow plugs are shutting off. Threefiftyone, I would get your charging system checked out to make sure it's keeping up. I know when my glow plugs are on or off but the difference is not so dramatic as slowing the blower fan down to the low speed. Just a very slight reduction in headlight brightness and blower speed. VERY slight.

Also I wanted to mention that I disabled computer control of my glow plugs. I have to hold a switch with the ignition on for them to light. It greatly reduces the on time that the glow plugs have to run, subsequently reducing the alternator and battery load. The engine smokes a lot more in the morning unless I hold it down for about a minute. That's normal diesel engine stuff.

with new batteries and 200A alternator my truck voltage drops to 11.5 usually with the headlights, driving lights, and glowplugs on in the morning at idle. as soon as you bring the rpms up should be in the 13.5's untill the gp's turn off.
