...and the tourist couldn't decide if they were going 2 turn left or go straight, so they stopped! as i stepped hard on my brakes the front left drum exploded into 3 different peices...
after 3 days of calling junk yards i had my disc brake spindles located. i found them 150 miles away in apache junction...next day air!
w/a $500 bill at napa i had new: king-pins, radius-arm bushings, calipers and rotors, brakelines, coil springs, and shocks, axle pivot bushings and wheel bearings and seals.
i had a machine shop install the new spindles onto the I-Beams and i did the rest. it was a pretty simple upgrade and suggest that anyone who can undo about 5 or 6 nuts and bolts, (tire lugs not included), should look into this easy and somewhat inexpensive upgrade!
if someone ot there is saying "i don't need to do that" or "i like drums better" has never went through a puddle and then tried to stop!!
LOOK OUT COMING THROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you get a larger master cylinder to deal with the larger amount of fluid the calipers will need versus the old wheel cylinders. How about a proportioning valve to avoid brake lock up. Just a couple ideas to throw out there. I used 79 bronco parts for my 4x4 disc conversion.
i just happen to save the proportioning valve off a donor 76 f-350 along w/mstr cylnder and brake booster. i knew some day i would convert to disc, i just didn't know when.
