2000 Ranger 4.0L 4x4, i believe i have the 4R55E trans, if there is anyway to make sure i would like to know. And it should be electronic. Well i heard nothing but bad things about these trans, its slipping and shifting hard and the O/D light will flash after a while. Took it to one trans shop a while back first time he test drove it and told me i needed a new trans, then about 2 months later i took it back again and he said i needed a new valve body. Now i tried this other shop he had it for the day he told me the computer is telling the Torque converter to lock but its not, and he dropped the pan was a lot of metal shavings and a valve body bolt was in there...
So more then likely i do need a new trans, or a rebuild. Guy said around $1100 not including hard parts, if it needs them then around $1800. That seems like much. I called a salvage yard he said he could get me a trans for $1100. I see some on ebay from roadmaster trans for $800 for a reman and pheonix trans has one for $725. I know reman is better and would rather get one with the updated components and stuff but are these company's any good? Should i just do a rebuild? Im kinda lost here at what to do its my daily driver also. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
