ATS wastegate question

89 7.3 with the ATS 3 inch wastegated system, about 3 months old, here is the question, what happens when the vaccum line to the wastegate actuator is disconnected, i did this tonight, and drove it for about 5 minutes, im not sure if i noticed any difference other then the turbo sounding just a tad bit different i think. Let me know.

Thanks Mike Howard

That should be a pressure line to the wastegate actuator, It opens the waste gate when the boost pressure reaches factory specs and blows off the pressure internally to the turbo exhaust. With it disconnected and not plugged, you will be loosing pressure.

Wastegate

I pulled the hose to the actuator diagraph off and used it to feed my turbo boost gauge. Bilder12 is right if you don't plug the hose side you will loose turbo boost. The wastegaste (actuator) side can be left open, although I would recommend you put on a dust cap to keep the dirt out of your diaphram.

Basically by removing the hose you remove the supply pressure to the wastegate actuator and have eliminated the wastegate operation which could cause you to over-boost your engine. You will get a little more power at the risk of possibly blowing a headgasket. If you are going to leave the wastegate disconnected, make sure you get a turbo boost gauge so you can manually limit the amount of boost. Factory set on my 93 is 7 psig, I have pushed it to 10 psig but usually back off on the throttle and won't go any higher. I want to get 500k+ out of my motor before I touch anything on it.

as they said, plug the hose and cap the plug. I pulled my line too and run an average of 7-9 lbs. When rapped rpm's I can see 14. Been that way for 40k and often pulling a trailer. Although I don't lead foot pulling a trailer. If you keep the line off get a boost guage
