New Process 435 trans pattern was 1st up, second was down. 3rd was up and 4th was down. Reverse is over to right and down. The T98 was the same except reverse was over and up.
mtpcage, I am not sure on the f250 but on my 66f100 4x4 the transfercase shift is forward 4wd-middle nutral-back 2wd. No high or low just 4 wheel drive or 2wd thats it.
hope this helps.
barrry, it sounds like its the T98 4SPEED. But their is a gear right below the reverse, i know its not an over drive can it be a granny? if it is what do we call it four speed with granny low/
the NP435, T98, and T18 are the 4 speed granny boxes used in the slicks. They all have 4 forward gears and one reverse. there is no 6th position. If you can shift your transmission into 6 positions, then you have one of two things:
-A 5 speed
or
-A broken transmission
As far as I know, they never used a 5 speed in the 60's f100 through f350s, but they did use a clark 5 speed in some other trucks with the FE series engines. there is an overdrive and a non overdrive version. Or it could be a T5 from a newer truck. Or any number of other things. Or, it could just be a broken transmission.
truck shifts allright i guess, so i would think it not broken. Not saying it isn't. The gear is low so its not the over drive. what makrking should i look for in the clark.
Well it took two weeks to uderstand a 65 4x4 with a 60 bed , why a few days on a five speed .
any help on the ID of the trans will help i don't have any books on that, all i know is that its red.
By my 61 shop manual, you've got a Clark 5 speed. Looking at the diagrams, they have 2nd and 3rd on the 1st shift rod and low and reverse on the 3rd rod. List a 250V and 251VO medium duty and a optional 2621V or 2652V heavy duty. By the pics it looks like there is a large square bulge in the case on the drivers side with a access plate attached. about 6" tall by 3" wide, sticks out about 2" to 3".
1) trans is RED
2) driverside of the trans is stamped R-LK-EE with the number 219016 above
3) on the back of the trans has a round thing with a brake inside (not in use
with a plate for the u joint on the back
4) all the bolts have LE on them.
5) 4 bolts holding it two the bellhouse.
anyone with this type of trans? don't know the history of the truck, all runing gear work fine
I can't find those numbers, letters, etc... in any of my parts books. The more I think of it, it sounds like a clark 5 speed. Thier numbers run in the 2xxxxx's like your number, but somewhat higher. It probably was pulled out of a larger truck with a "Y" block and it fit right in. THe rear brake on the back of the tranny was an emergency brake, with a lever assy bolted on the passenger side of the tranny, sticking up into the cab.
Do you have any heavy truck repair shops nearby? THey'd have books to I.D. that trans. I don't want to say 100% it's a clark, but I'm leaning that way. Someone probably did it for road speed and gas mileage.
