Hi, I've read a bunch of vibration posts, but I just don't feel most of them are getting at the question I need answered. I have a 2000 Ford Explorer. A couple weeks ago it started a terrible vibration. The vibration does not occur when in park and revving the engine. It's not there between 0-10 mph only higher speeds, most noticeable between 20-45. It also only occurs when acceleration or more specifically when the accelerator is pushed down. It seems to ease up a bit at higher speeds, but if I push the accelerator further I can still feel it. It's totally gone when the accerlerator is not pushed. It also seems to be consuming quite a bit more gas too. It feels like the vibration is all through the front end. In fact it's more than a vibration, it shudders and shakes. Does anyone know what is causing this? I'm going to take it to the shop next week if I can't find it over the weekend. Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.
I JUST had this happen to my 2000 mountaineer, it feels like your accelerating in to high of a gear with a stick shift. anyway. change the plugs. and make sure to get the double platinum ones. mine started this exact thing last week all of a sudden eventually my check engine light came on and reported multiple cylinder misfires. switched out the plugs and its like a new engine. I had to buy autolites because they didnt have an oem replacement in motorcrafts, they were a longer plug than original.
Tires.. Had same problem.... Changed all four and the problem gone. Seems some tires are somewhat " elastic" when applying drag. I know now that some tires are deficient in this respect. Maybe have lateral walls much too thin.......or maybe when old gets worse. Had all my perfect looking old tires re-balanced but would still give me this shudder when applying gas at about 40. Some croack said the tranny had to be messed upon. Changed all four and the problem gone.
